Lethbridge Hugo George Sangiovese Merlot from Lethbridge Wines in Geelong's autumn-ripened Lethbridge Vineyard detonates with Italianate sorcery, a rare 50% Sangiovese, 31% Merlot and 19% Cabernet Franc blend hand-harvested for perfect sugar-acid-tannin balance from Ray Nadeson's 1996 plantings. Savoury sour cherries, lavender and juicy Victoria plums explode with woodfired smoke, sweet spices and cured meat on the back palate, all framed by plush texture, firm fine-grained tannins and rich persistence after 18 months in new French oak.
